Original Landscape Painting – Arizona Ocotillo

January 26th, 2013

SOLD

Growing up in Bisbee, Arizona during the 40’s and 50’s was an event I wish every youngster could experience. There is something about growing up in a small close-knit community that is special. It has been over 55 years since I left Bisbee but I still keep in contact with friends I made in grade school. I consider them more than friends ….. they are part of my Bisbee family.

Although Bisbee is nestled deep in the Mule Mountains at an altitude of over 5,000 feet you don’t have to walk far to be in the Sonoran Desert where all kinds of cactus flourish. One of my favorites is the Ocotillo cactus. It’s not a beautiful thing to look at by itself but when you look out over the desert and see thousands of them covering the landscape it is something to behold. When cut and dried out, the Ocotillo makes one of the best fences known to man. I think every rancher in the area had a fence made out of Ocotillo and I wouldn’t be surprised if those same fences were still in use today.

Original Landscape Painting – Good Morning Texas

January 24th, 2013

It is so much fun sitting down in front of a small 8×10 gessoed board, dabbing paint here, there and everywhere on the board not knowing exactly what the finished product will look like. Being able to create something from nothing is exciting. I can just imagine what God felt like when He created the universe. He made something beautiful but he He knew exactly what His finished product would look like.

There are some days when I finish a painting and I am not happy at all with the results. This painting goes into temporary storage in my “look at it later” file. This was not the case when I finished “Good Morning Texas”. It ended up just as I visualized it would. A ray of sunlight hitting a field full of cactus. If no one wants to purchase this one I will try to talk my wife in to buying it.

This painting is an 8×10 original unframed acrylic painted on a gessoed board and sells for $65.00 with a $4.00 shipping charge. If you are not completely happy with the painting, return it within 14 days and I will gladly refund your money. I feel confident you will enjoy this piece of art for many years to come.

Original Landscape Painting – Barn and Bluebonnets

January 22nd, 2013

SOLD

This is the third barn with bluebonnets painting I have done within the last month or so. The first two paintings sold almost immediately so I decided to paint another similar scene. Before you accuse me of being an artistic conveyor belt spitting out duplicate paintings, let me assure you—they are not duplicates. Each painting is unique in its own way and no two paintings are the same.

I love to paint barns. I think maybe it’s because they remind me of people like me and many of my elderly friends. Old barns, through the years become wrinkled, tarnished, rustic and appear to be falling apart but despite their outward appearance they are still useful. Old age is not a very good excuse to quit living. I don’t recall God ever establishing an age-limit on serving Him. I’m reminded of the words found in one of my favorite songs: “The longer I serve Him, the sweeter He grows.” I hope you will be “barn-like” and serve Him too!

This painting is an 8×10 original unframed acrylic painted on a gessoed board and sells for $65.00 with a $4.00 shipping charge. Original Landscape Painting – God’s Country

January 17th, 2013

Anytime I’m driving on rural Texas roads, I am always on the lookout for country churches to include in some of my paintings. My wife was a member of Crossroad Baptist Church, a small country church in west Texas, and she has many fond memories of the people, pastors and experiences of that small church. Crossroad Baptist, as well as countless other country churches, served as training grounds for young men who were studying to be ministers. The pastors at that church were primarily students at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. Were they the best preachers in the world? Absolutely not……. but the church members overlooked their lack of experience and loved them unconditionally.

Original Landscape Painting – Good Morning Texas

January 9th, 2013

SOLD

I want to digress for a moment from talking about “paint stuff” to talking about “pillows”. You may think I’ve lost my mind but I promise that when you get to the bottom line of this literary masterpiece, you will find a direct correlation to my latest painting “Good Morning Texas”.

My wife Sue and I have been members of the First Baptist Church in downtown San Antonio, Texas for over 32 years. Under the leadership of our pastor, Don Guthrie (whom we dearly love) our church has experienced significant growth not only in numbers but also in our commitment to reach out and serve our city. God, of course, is due all the credit but Don is also fortunate enough to have a lovely wife, Holly, who keeps him in line. Holly is a very talented seamstress and makes absolutely beautiful scripture pillows which she sells. I know nothing about sewing but I am guessing that every now and then Holly will make a pillow and when she sees the final product she will look at it and say “Wow, there’s something about that pillow that is special !”

I expressed that same sentiment when I finished this painting. Often, I will finish a painting and not be real satisfied with the final result but when I was working on this painting everything seemed to click and I was excited about the final product. My hope is that you will like it too.

By the way, see some of Holly’s beautiful pillows by clicking on the following: Holly’s Scripture Pillows .

Original Landscape Painting – Cold Country

December 16th, 2012

SOLD

You may not realize it but yes, Texas does have snow. I will admit, however, that it hardly ever snows in the San Antonio area. The last time I can remember seeing snow was in 1985. Snow in the Hill Country just to the north of us is fairly common and is always a welcome sight.

About 3 years ago I painted this scene on a 12×16 canvas and sold it at the Western Art Show for $600. This show is held annually each year in San Antonio and is sponsored by the Alamo Kiwanis Club.

This painting is an 8×10 original unframed acrylic painted on a gessoed board and sells for $70.00 with a $4.00 shipping charge. If you are not comletely happy with the painting, return it within 14 days and I will gladly refund your money. I feel confident you will enjoy this piece of art for many years to come.

Original Landscape Painting – Hill Country Heaven

December 16th, 2012

SOLD

I painted another painting titled “Hill Country” which is similar to the painting you see here. During the month of November I displayed the painting at a Gallery in San Antonio and I liked it so much that I decided to keep it for myself and not sell it. Before I had a chance to delete it from my Blog someone purchased it so I grabbed my paint brush, headed for my immaculately clean studio where nothing is out of place and painted another one. Hope you like it!

This painting is an 8×10 original unframed acrylic painted on a gessoed board and sells for $70.00 with a $4.00 shipping charge. Original Landscape Painting – Lonely Oak

December 16th, 2012

SOLD

The most predominant tree found in the Texas Hill Country is the beautiful Live Oak. Some of them are literally hundreds of years old and if they could talk, I imagine they would tell some interesting stories of things that happened within their earshot. If you want to paint Bluebonnets then you also need to learn to paint oak trees because the two of them seem to be bosom buddies.

Original Landscape Painting – In Full Bloom

December 7th, 2012

SOLD

It seems like painting blooming Yucca plants is my favorite thing to do. Usually, when these plants are in full bloom in late Spring each year you will literally see hundreds of them dotting the hillsides. Actually, when looking at a real live Yucca plant –they are not as colorful as I depict them. That’s what great about being an artist —you can use your own imagination and make them any color your little pea-pickin’-heart wants them to be (Uh-oh…..I’m dating myself back to the days of Tennessee Ernie Ford).

Original Landscape Painting – Color Me Texas

December 7th, 2012

I’ve mentioned over and over how beautiful the wildflowers are each Spring in the Texas Hill Country. This painting shows many of the colors one might see if they took a gander at the land around them. It makes you want to lay down in the middle of all those flowers and play with the rattlesnakes.

This painting is an 8×10 original unframed acrylic painted on a gessoed board and sells for $70.00 with a $4.00 shipping charge. If you are not comletely happy with the painting, return it within 14 days and I will gladly refund your money. I feel confident you will enjoy this piece of art for many years tocome.
